The Bettermile Driver App is the fastest way to onboard with Better Route: install it on a device, connect your Data Gateway connector, and the app handles tour setup, route optimisation, turn-by-turn navigation, and job status collection for you. There is no backend integration to build beyond the connector.
The app can run in one of two deployment modes:
| Company Device | Personal Device | |
|---|---|---|
| Devices | Company-owned, MDM-managed | Driver's own, unmanaged |
| OS | Android only | Android and iOS |
| Feature scope | Full, including shared-device integrations | Base feature set only today. Feature parity is on the mid-term roadmap, with no committed date yet. Shared-device integrations are not supported. |
Company Device mode is the right fit if you're provisioning and managing devices centrally, for example alongside handheld scanners already used in the depot. Personal-Device mode is the right fit if drivers install the app on their own phones, and you don't need the shared-device integrations (App-to-App Library, webhooks) covered in Enhancing the single-device setup below.
- Company Device Mode: hardware, device management, and supported Android versions.
- Personal-Device Mode: app store links and Personal-Device-specific scope.
Company Device mode runs the Bettermile Driver App on company-owned, MDM-managed Android devices, with the full feature set, including shared-device integrations. See Choosing a deployment mode above if you haven't already decided.
The app runs on Bettermile-managed hardware bundles, or on your own managed rugged Android handheld scanners, supported and tested on Zebra TC77, TC78, and CT45, as well as Honeywell devices, where the app runs alongside your existing scanning workflow.
Bettermile supports the last 4 major versions of Android. See the Android version history for reference.
Recommended (as of May 2025): Android 13 or above.
This matrix applies to Company Device mode. Personal-Device mode has separate, lighter OS requirements, see Personal-Device Mode below.
Personal-Device mode runs the Bettermile Driver App on the driver's own, unmanaged device, Android or iOS. See Choosing a deployment mode above if you haven't already decided.
To keep your data secure, we require own devices to run an operating system version that is still receiving security updates from Apple or Google, rather than a fixed number of versions back.
- Minimum supported versions: iOS 18+ / Android 15+ (reviewed and updated quarterly).
- Why: these versions still receive security patches from Apple/Google, older versions may no longer be supported for Personal-Device access.
- Check your version:
- iPhone/iPad: Settings → General → About → Software Version
- Android: Settings → About Phone → Software Version
- If your device is below the minimum version, please update it to continue accessing company resources.
Once your depot has access to Backoffice, driver accounts are created there, the same flow for both Company Device and Personal-Device mode. See Integration Options & Prerequisites for the full onboarding flow.
In case of concerns or for further options, reach out to your Sales or Customer representative.
Only available in Company Device mode. Two integrations connect your app to the Bettermile Driver App:
- App-to-App Library (ScanLib): lets the two apps launch each other and exchange scan results directly, so drivers don't have to manually switch between them. For example, your scanner app can hand off to the Bettermile Driver App for navigation, and pass scan results back once a parcel is processed.
- Webhooks: SEQUENCE_UPDATED: notifies your backend whenever the driver's stop sequence changes, so your systems stay in sync with what's shown on the device in real time.
You can integrate either independently, depending on whether the gap you need to close is on the device (ScanLib) or in your backend (Webhooks).
